At Lake Country Animal Hospital, we understand that bringing your pet in for a surgical procedure, no matter how routine, can be a stressful time. That’s why we work hard to make both you and your pet feel comfortable and at ease. We want you to know that when you bring your pet to us, you can rest assured that they will receive the best available surgical care. Both of our veterinarians are highly skilled at performing various surgical procedures, and our well-trained technical staff is always on hand to carefully monitor each patient, before, during and after every procedure.

During the admission process, our veterinary technicians discuss and explain the timeline of treatments and medications your pet will receive while here for their surgical procedure. They will also gladly answer any questions you may have. Since each surgical procedure can present its own risks and challenges, our staff is trained and educated to take the necessary precautions to minimize these risks. Prior to surgery, we recommend pre-anesthetic blood work. This is a valuable precaution that can inform us of any deficiencies, or internal illnesses that may be compromising your pet’s health.

During anesthesia and recovery, a veterinary technician is dedicated to your pet’s safety and comfort. Using the Cardell monitor during surgery, they carefully monitor the patient’s blood pressure, EKG, heart and respiratory rates, as well as oxygen and carbon dioxide levels. Each patient is placed on a warming water circulation blanket, and wrapped in warm blankets during recovery.

For those clients who wish to observe a surgical procedure, our surgery suite features a convenient viewing window. Elective surgical procedures are scheduled Monday through Friday, with the patient being admitted to the hospital early in the morning. Once the surgical procedure is complete, our knowledgeable staff will work with you to develop and implement an appropriate pain management plan to help your pet remain as comfortable as possible during recovery.

For patients who require orthopedic surgery, our veterinarians will provide a referral to an orthopedic surgeon, who travels to the clinic to perform various on-site procedures. For other specialty services, referrals will be provided to specialty practices or referral centres.
