Dental

Periodontal disease is one of the most common diseases affecting cats and dogs. If left untreated, this condition can lead to a host of other, more serious medical problems throughout your pet’s body, including disease of the heart, liver and kidneys. This can easily be prevented through routine veterinary dental care. At Lake Country Animal Hospital, we offer a range of veterinary dental services to help keep your pet’s mouth healthy and clean.

Removing the tartar and plaque that build up on the teeth is done through a procedure called dental prophylaxis, and is essential in preventing the progression of periodontal disease. Having your pet’s dentistry done in the early stages of the disease can prevent the loss of teeth, and help them to maintain good oral health. This procedure is performed using a full general anesthetic, and is followed by a day’s stay in our hospital. Our veterinary technicians perform a full cleaning of your pet’s teeth and gums, using various hand dentistry tools, as well as an ultrasonic scaler and polisher. Our skilled veterinarians can also perform tooth extractions, if deemed necessary. For specialty dental care, referral to a veterinary dentist will be provided.

New in 2017 we have purchased a dental radiography system that allows us to have a look at what is going on under the gumline and provide a more thorough examination of your pets oral health.
